Board For Our Heroes
It has been a great honor to share the water with our heroes but how awesome would it be if we could provide a board so they can continue their journey? It is with this thought the “Board For Our Heroes” program took shape.
This is a program that is designed to help our service members continue their journey. We host multiple group paddles, and events through the year, and when we find a service member we feel is deserving and having their own equipment would benefit greatly. We source a board that would fit with the discipline of paddling they are interested in, and we give the board to them!
Recipients
Aaron Lugo
Aaron was the first recipient of the Board For Our Heroes program. We presented the board to him on JULY 21, 2020. He is an Army Veteran, Combat Veteran, and a close friend. Over the past year we have gotten to know him well and it has been incredible seeing the impact the community and being on the water has had in his life.
Matthew MacLeod
Matthew was the third recipient of the Board For Our Heroes program. We presented the board to him on August 7, 2022. We presented this board in honor of National Purple Heart Day. This day is in observance of all those who were injured or killed in service to this great country. Matthew served 4 years in the United States Marine Corps with 2/6 Golf company. During his tenure with the Corps, he served in OIF; he was awarded the Purple Heart for wounds sustained in combat. After leaving the Marines he went on to study Criminal Justice and Middle Eastern cultures with a focus on Arabic from Western Michigan University. He has spent the last 12 years working in the Government. Matthew is an avid outdoorsman and is disciplined in all extreme recreational adventures. He uses his experiences with combat and adventure to help give back to our veteran community through Warriors2Waves.
It has been a great honor to share the water with our heroes but having the opportunity to give them a board has been incredible! A paddle board is just a material item, but the impact is SO MUCH more than that! There is something special about being on the water… and the board is that vessel. We have seen the impact it can have first-hand on many occasions.
